DALLAS / 2024
02 / THE ANALYSIS

The split behind 7–10.

Dallas won more often away from home—and allowed fewer points per game. The size of the home losses made the contrast especially sharp.

Compare like with like

Dallas played nine home games and eight away games, so per-game averages and win rates are more comparable than raw totals alone.

Home losses ran deep

Dallas scored 161 points and allowed 281 at home. Four losses were by at least 24 points: New Orleans (−25), Detroit (−38), Philadelphia (−28), and Houston (−24). Those four games account for a combined −115 margin.

Even excluding the Detroit loss, Dallas would be 2–6 at home with a −82 total margin. The home deficit was not the product of just one game.

Road wins were not dominance

Dallas scored 189 points and allowed 187 away. Its five road wins added up to +48; its three road losses totaled −46. The 41–7 loss at Philadelphia nearly erased the combined gains from those wins.

The typical result was less extreme: the median away margin was +4 points, versus −7 at home. Both the averages and medians favored the road.

Same opponent, different location

Dallas played each division opponent twice. Comparing these pairs reduces one difference between the groups, but the games still happened at different times and under different conditions.
